I Switched to Linux

Feb 19, 2026

Yesterday I got my new laptop (a pretty beefy ThinkPad workstation), and decided to switch from Windows to Linux, because why not. It's open source, stable and EU-made. Great.

I went with Linux Mint, mostly because it feels stable, beginner-friendly, and kinda like Windows. The setup process was super easy, drivers worked out of the box, hardware was recognized immediately, even my external audio card (Focusrite) didn't need any extra drivers. Cool. My external Asus ProArt monitor also worked without any issues.

So far, everything has been running smoothly, and it feels quite a bit snappier than both Windows and macOs. Also, there wasn't any bloat software installed as default that I could find, love it.

I also decided to switch browsers, moving from Chrome to Firefox. Webflow seems to work just fine in Firefox, which is quite important for my day-to-day work. I did however run into one small hiccup related to smooth scrolled websites, but forcing the NVIDIA GPU to stay in “always on” mode solved it completely.

The main downside so far is music production. FL Studio, Ableton, and lots of VST plugins don’t run natively on Linux, so I’ll need to explore alternatives there, maybe trying to go fully open source if possible (probably not).
